  • We need to make phone booklets that will help the students to learn on your own. (The booklets are linked below.)
    • The idea is that the written materials can be used in a self-guided way, and the students will learn in this way.
  • There will be about 60 phones
    • One to two phones for each group
    • A phone for each Cama trainer
  • The timetable for the summer school is available here: S3/timetable. On the time table each group will have time to go for phone training, for about 1.5 hour per group.
    • all cama trainers will get a phone training session
    • The students will be trained in groups of 30, although we may be able to train in larger groups. (Initially,we were planning that if the number of students will be 150 and each student has a phone, then will divide them into 3 groups of 50 students per group.)
      • Each student group would learn independently, perhaps with help from ambassadors and/or cama trainers (who we will train at the start of the summer school) and they will train the group members with the help of the SRC staff.
      • The phone training (from one student group) will be happening in parallel with email training (for another student group), so the phone training cannot happen in the ICT lab. We're using the lunch room for the phone training for the student groups.
    • During the training S.R.C staff could be going round the groups to see where the problems are while the ambassadors are training.
    • Will be using a projector to show the images we made for each stage on the operation of the phones. to show whereto go and what to select.
    • The phone training can be happening after IT training so that student can be using IT skills with the phones since its the same thing.


  • Initially it looked possible to get phones for all students, and so since students will be carrying phones they can just practice in their own time. However, now we only have a certain set of phones, so we need to decide what to do.
    • We also should look at the phones that the students already have (see 'drop in' on S3/timetable), in case students have internet capable phones.

[edit] 2 Important ideas to convey during the training

  • Students should be told that phones are not for personal use but for the programme and they should be taking good care of it. it is to use for important businesses, and also to tell them the purpose of using internet phones. (The phones are owned by Camfed, and need to be returned at the end of the program.)
  • We need to encourage the students to use Opera Mini for internet browsing to reduce the cost of internet use may be we can include in the phone booklets.
